Educational Support For Families

SCHOOL SUPPORT & COLLABORATION

The educational team is able to assist families in building collaborative relationships with school teams and outside service providers.  The team educates families about Student Study Team (SST) meetings, 504 plans, IEPS, as well as special education law. The team supports families by:

  • Identifying areas of strengths and weakness
  • Identifying appropriate services to address areas of need
  • Assisting families in communicating concerns and goals with the school team and related service providers
  • Coordinating, facilitating, supporting, attending, and/ or consulting for school meetings

IEP CONSULTATION

Creating an Individualized Education Program (IEP) can be a difficult and stressful process. During IEP consultation the educational team helps families:

  • Review and understand IEPs and educational testing and reports
  • Better understand parent/ guardian rights under special education law
  • Build confidence in navigating the process of developing an IEP and advocating for their child
  • Determine appropriate services and accommodations for their child
  • Collaborate with the IEP team to create relevant, measurable, and achievable goals
  • Work collaboratively with the IEP team to develop and execute plans to meet their child’s needs

SCHOOL PLACEMENT

The educational team assists in identifying an appropriate public, private or therapeutic setting to address each child’s individual needs and goals. Working collaboratively with private, public, and therapeutic schools in the area, the educational team strives to support both families and school teams to create appropriate service plans and programs that best support the learning and social-emotional needs of each child.

PARENT COACHING

Unification between the clinic and home is essential in helping children to grow and develop as learners. When parents understand, apply, and encourage strategies utilized by the educational team, it aids in strengthening their child’s newly learned skills. Through parent coaching, the educational team teaches and demonstrates a variety of effective tools to address their child’s specific areas of need. Parent coaching can be accessed through:

  • One-on-one coaching
  • ‘Lunch and Learn’ seminars
  • Workshops
  • Consultation
